Build on your valuable nursing experience and play a central role in health promotion and disease prevention for women. Well suited for BSN graduates, our online Master of Science in Nursing, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) program invites you to dive deeply into the unique issues women face, including the cultural and socioeconomic factors that influence health. You’ll acquire the skills needed to provide effective, equitable health care, including gynecologic, family planning, STD diagnosis and treatment, and primary care for women throughout their lifetime, from puberty through menopause. You’ll also discover how to utilize health care policies and health indicators to advocate and lead improvements for women on a local, state, national, and global level.
This program includes service-learning projects where students gain hands-on experience delivering care to underserved women and those in unique cultural and socioeconomic settings in rural, urban, or international locations. Keiser’s WHNP program helps prepare students for careers in OBGYN, labor and delivery, sexual assault response, or leadership roles within women’s health care.
Keiser University’s Associate of Science degree in Nursing prepares students to practice professional nursing. Professional nursing involves the performance of those acts requiring substantial specialized knowledge, judgment and nursing skill based upon applied principles of biological, physical, psychological and social sciences. The nursing practice of a professional nurse includes but is not limited to:
- Assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care;
- Health teaching and counseling of individuals who may be ill, injured or infirm;
- Promotion of wellness, maintenance of health, and prevention of illness of others;
- Administration of treatments and medications as prescribed in accordance with the standards of nursing practice.
The program’s mission is further defined in the following goals:
- Students will utilize effective interdisciplinary collaboration within a health care environment;
- Students will integrate evidence based technologies to support clinical decision making;
- Students will utilize clinical judgment and reasoning to promote optimal patient care;
- Students will model behaviors of professionalism in the pursuit of excellence;
- Students will possess the necessary breadth of knowledge and skills for obtaining entry-level employment as a professional registered nurse.
